Antoinette Balta

Class of 2018

Military & Veteran’s Organizations

After practicing law privately for several years, Antoinette N. Balta made a transition to a career in public interest so she could pursue her passion for service.  From there, Balta co-founded a military-specific nonprofit law firm, Veterans Legal Institute, that provides free legal services to thousands of low income and homeless veterans.

During PLS, based on her development of mobile legal clinics in Southern California, Balta built a “clinic in a box” that encompasses best practices for serving veterans, information regarding veteran specific legal issues, forms, and sample policies and procedures. The information is distributed free of charge to any interested nonprofit or bar association willing to provide a pro or low bono legal services program for veterans.
